Description
It's been a decade since it took to the air, and it still captures slack-jawed gawks wherever it goes. It's hard not stand in sheer disbelief of the behemoth that is the Airbus A380 - it dwarfs every other purpose-built commercial airliner in the world.
Initially, the A380 was supposed to supplant Boeing's 747 as the dominance in the Ultra-High-Capacity-Aircraft market; it ended up crushing it. The statistics speak for themselves. A maximum takeoff weight exceeding one-point-two MILLION pounds (the first to break into the seven-digit figure) and a passenger capacity increase over it's predecessor of nearly thirty percent (853 vs. the 747-400's 660 passengers in an all-economy class configuration)! Those are typically the two numbers that are brought to the table when conveying the gargantuan proportions of the jet that changed the classification system for air traffic control's separation standards - a whole new term, "Super Heavy" was created exclusively because of the A380. It's no wondering that the term "King Of The Skies" is the nickname that is beginning to catch on in aviation circles.
That nickname plus the company colors that this specific Super Heavy is painted in determined the name of this print. Awaiting it's turn in the queue, all lit up in the darkness of night, British Airways Flight 286 certainly has that majestic look of a king,
