Description
October 16, 2015 marks what is being termed as the last day that US Airways will officially exist. While the fleet still has a while to go before all planes transition to the new paint job, it is the following day that all "US" flight numbers will be supplanted by AA ones.
To commemorate this event, American Airlines is highlighting the passage of the carrier by conducting one last special flight. AA1939 is designated as the LAST FLIGHT under the US flight number system. Starting in Philadelphia, the aircraft will make a final round through the various US Airways hubs, plus San Francisco, before returning to it's starting point on the following morning. Keen eyes will spot that the flight number "1939" is startup year of All American Aviation, the precursor to the much better known Allegheny Airlines that eventually became US Airways.
"1939" is a variant of "Come Fly With US", with numerous touches added to honor the last-flight event. The title, flight info, and dates are "inscribed" in light gray, and the various logos of the better known airlines that make up the US Airways legacy (as defined by US Airways) are included. It is a tribute to US Airways and all its employees over the last 76 years of its existence.
